8 Things Gossip Girl Taught Us

After six seasons, 121 episodes,
countless hours binge watching on Netflix,
and multiple shocking moments later,
Gossip Girl still forever holds a strong grip in my heart.

To confess, I never wanted to watch the show.
And I never had any interest, whatsoever, to do so.
But what happens when a college student gets bored..
and that student also has a Netflix account?
Yup, you guessed it.

Gossip Girl wasn't just a cultural phenom,
it truly taught us some very important life lessons that we should listen to.

----

Here is the wisdom that GG has given us:

1.) Your body should be treated with respect.

GG definitely covered a long range of different controversial topics.
From eating disorders, underage drinking and alcoholism, drug abuse,
the show definitely showed no boundaries.
It shed some light on the dangers some actions can bring,
and that everything is truly avoidable with choice.
That lifestyle may look glamorous sometimes,
but you should think smartly about what you're doing and how it can affect you
in the long term, rather than short term.

2.) Confidence gets you places.

For me, it's difficult to say this and actually mean it.
But when you look at the positive attitudes of Miss Blair and Serena,
they always acted as if they were wearing their invisible tiaras.
(And their actual ones, of course.)
Everyone has moments of doubt,
these ladies being no exception.
But GG showed us that going through life confidently,
and knowing what you want and who you are,
leads to great endings and the best results.

3.) Social media is your worst enemy.

Twitter and Facebook are great tools for staying connected with people.
With blogging, I've enjoyed posting my opinions on many topics.
And don't even get me started on Pinterest.
But GG taught us that the online world is a mean one.
People can post what they want, when they want,
with little to no filter if they choose.
Something getting posted online, where it can last forever,
can damage someone's life, sometimes to extreme points.
Especially since you never know who's watching.
Monitor closely.
It could save you.

4.) Relationships aren't easy.

Chuck and Blair forever have my heart,
but for more reasons rather than just being the best couple ever.
They truly showed us that relationships aren't perfect.
But when you love someone, you work through the trials.
And you learn to love the imperfections.

5.) Be yourself.

Poor Little J, all she wanted to do was fit in.
And even though she kind of spiraled out of control in the end there,
(Like what happened?!)
she taught us one important lesson:
Stay true to yourself.
She struggled the most with finding who she really was,
but when she did, she let everyone know it.
It's not about fitting in, those friends don't last.
It's about finding who you are, rocking it,
and finding people that love you for it.

6.) Stay Motivated.

Sexy Nate Archibald went from rich with daddy's money,
to dead beat poor and homeless..
to the owner of his own company.
His dedication and commitment got him where he wanted to be.
Whether this means job hunting, college,
or just simply getting you butt up and going to class,
look toward the bigger picture,
and never lose focus on your ultimate goal.
It may seem far away, but don't focus on how far you still have to go,
focus on how much you have already achieved.

7.) Retail therapy does exist.

Okay, probably eventually it won't end up cheaper than sitting down with a woman,
and talking about your feelings.
But it's definitely more fun.
Shopping truly does cure all problems.
Blair taught was this lesson well.

8.) Dont settle.

Keep your standards high in all aspects of your life.
Don't settle for anything less than you deserve.
Blair and Serena definitely wouldn't have it.

GG taught us many lessons to take into life,
but these are the themes that really stuck out to me.

Oh and that fashion was on point at all times.

Here's one more picture of Chuck Bass,
you know... just incase.
