Tell All Tuesday: What is Love?

What is the definition of love?

I didn't think I would ever be able to answer this question.

Growing up, I never wanted to get married,
I never really cared about dating or took it seriously,
I just thought I was destined to be alone, but in a good way.
Or at least, in my mind, it was.

In my short lifetime, I have been witness to many flaws that "love" brings,
including divorce, heartbreaking scenarios, and breakups,
and it always made me question if love was a real thing.
I knew I loved my pets, I knew I loved my parents, and I knew I loved that dress in the mall,
but that love I always read in books,
(thinking like Twilight and vampire romance novels days)
that feeling of utter passion, attraction, and longing feeling for someone,
I just didn't believe it was something I could personally feel.

And in all honesty, I didn't want to feel it.
Why put so much dedication, time, effort, emotions, into someone that was just going to leave?
With dating, you're either going to marry that person or not. It's like 50/50 chance.
And most of time, that person walks out of your life for some lesson you'll recognize later.
With marriage, why do you need to spend large sums of money to essentially receive a piece
of paper that says that you and the other are committed?
Can't you just feel in your heart and soul that you're committed, why do you need the paper?
Or the ceremony? Because it's tradition?
And all that money wasted (and some more spent)
to just end up in a divorce and back to where you started.
I know, a pretty sucky ideal to have fill your brain at a young age.
But that was all I ever knew, so that's all I ever expected.

----

What is love?

I have always pondered this question,
and still just never come up with a satisfying answer that I can settle with.

But then I realized, maybe that's the point?

Love isn't just XYZ.
It can be.. basically.. everything.
No one is going to have the same definition of what they consider to be love.
And I think that's what I was missing.

I wasn't letting myself be open to receiving love,
so instead of having actual insight into what that feeling is,
I based my horrible mindset on the actions and trials of others.

I always knew that love was not perfect.
I think it's kind of strange if couples don't fight about something every once in while.
But I saw everyone's worse moments, rather than letting myself experience it.

----

Now, even through this change of mindset,
along with now being in a committed relationship for 2 years,
I still don't have a perfect definition of love.
I don't believe one truly exist.
But I thought I would share a few things of what I believe love is.

----

1. Love is letting them have the last bite.

2. Love is watching the movie or show they want to watch and enjoying it.

3. Love is wearing no makeup and him still thinking you're smoking hot.

4. Love is when they bring you your favorite snack randomly, just because.

5. Love is when your comfortable in whatever situation your in.

6. Love is when he takes you to get Mexican food, even though he hates it.

7. Love is when you know you have a shoulder to cry on.

8. Love is when he thinks you're bombshell sexy in your oversized t-shirt and norts.

9. Love is when he likes cats just as much as you.

10. Love is when you don't care about gifts during holidays, just their presence with you.

11. Love is having someone support your crazy dreams, ideas, and goals.

12. Love is letting them have control of the music you play in the car.

13. Love is when he pumped your gas for you so you don't have to.

14. Love is that look he gives every time you wake up in the morning.

15. Love is not being embarrassed to share what you're thinking at the moment.

----

I could go on forever.
Now, I realize that this list is created with me in mind.
But that's my point.

Everyone,
boy, girl, young, old, gay, straight, upside down, and purple,
has their own definition of what they believe to be love.
And that's what took me forever to discover.

But, all in all, if you had to take a theme from my 15 definitions,
love is selfless, fun, comfortable, surprising, and raw.

Sorry to go all crazy serious on you guys,
but this is a topic that has recently been on my mind,
and I wanted an outlet to get all my thoughts down.
I hope you enjoyed this twist in my blog,
and I hope it inspires you as well.

Until next time,
